Educating our future sustainable leaders

ReGeneration 2030 and The Swedish Association for Responsible Consumption are during the spring and summer conducting a Leadership Program on Circular Economy aimed at young people in the Nordic and Baltic Sea Region. The aim is to form a new generation of trendsetters and leaders - circulents - to create a more sustainable future.

The youth movement ReGeneration 2030 and The Swedish Association for Responsible Consumption are both working towards the same goal - to make sustainable production and consumption the new norm. Now, for the first time ever, they are joining forces to educate and shape tomorrow’s sustainable leaders.

The Leadership Program in Circular Economy will be educating 30 young participants from the Nordic and Baltic Sea Region on how to become leaders within the field of circular economy. The program consists of a course that is conducted online starting at the beginning of May running until mid June. Both ReGeneration 2030 and The Swedish Association for Responsible Consumption stress the importance of educating young leaders within this field.

- ‘Children should be seen and not heard’ is an expression we absolutely need to leave behind, for real, in all areas of decision making. Especially when it comes to decisions directly related to the future of those affected. To create the consumers of the future, circulents, in this leadership program we do not only hope to teach them what the meaning of circular economy is, but to be taught on the way forward by their own ideas of solutions, campaigns and thought leadership we’ll see in the near future, says Alexandra Davidsson, Secretary General, The Swedish Association for Responsible Consumption.

The Leadership Program on Circular Economy will be addressing four different topics: Sustainable and Circular Lifestyles, Entrepreneurship - Redesigning Business Models, Political Advocacy and Systems Thinking. All participants in the programme will be attending four full-day digital meetings where different inspirational guests will be speaking about their expertise in the field. Some of the speakers are Elin Bergman, Chief Operating Officer at Cradlenet, Tim Forslund, Circular economy expert at SITRA, Hanna Törmänen, Innovation adviser at Nordic Innovation, Ingmar Rentzhog, CEO of We Don’t Have Time, Ionut Iordachescu, CTO at Ringy and Carl Schlyter, Campaign Manager at Greenpeace Sweden.

- I am thrilled that we are able to offer this opportunity to young people who are interested in becoming future leaders in the field of circular economy. The interest for the program has been large, which is a clear indication of the importance of these types of youth ventures. I am glad that we have a diverse group of participants from all over the region and that we can offer a platform where the young people can meet, learn and become future leaders together, says Ella Turta, Secretary General at ReGeneration 2030.

The participants are also invited to attend ReGeneration Week 2021 on the Åland Islands at the end of August. ReGeneration Week is a high-level meeting platform for decision makers and youth to discuss sustainability matters in the Nordic and Baltic Sea Region. The leadership program is funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers.
